Illinois DocAssist

Illinois DocAssist, administered by the Department of Healthcare and Family Services in partnership with DMH and ICMHP, is designed to improve early detection and prompt initiation of treatment for psychiatric and substance use disorders in childcare and adolescents within primary care settings; increase access to mental health and substance use care; integrate mental health and substance use care with other medical care; and improve the quality of psycho-pharmacotherapy  for psychiatric disorders prescribed by primary care providers, including appropriate doses and duration of medication trials, avoidance of unnecessary polypharmacy, and minimizing risks of adverse reactions.

Since its inception in September 2008, the program has provided over 2,000 consultations to primary care providers and is working to increase contacts with primary care providers through direct consultations and provision of Continuing Medical Education activities.
